10 Shows to Watch If You Love Yellowstone

10 Shows to Watch If You Love Yellowstone

There’s been a lot of news in the Yellows Universe recently, but none as influential as the official release for Yellowstone Season 5. It will premiere on the Paramount Network on November 13th. That will give you plenty of time to discuss the Duttons over Thanksgiving dinner. In other 1883 news, a new spin-off will feature famed Black deputy US Marshal Bass Reeves, and Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren will appear in the new series 1932. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is officially an empire.

Suppose you’ve seen Season 4 multiple times, once on the Paramount Network weekly last autumn and again on Peacock in one colossal binge. In that case, you might be searching for anything else Yellowstone-related to keep you over until Season 5 arrives.

To that purpose, we’ve compiled a list of series and movies to binge-watch until John (Kevin Costner), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and the rest of the nefarious Duttons return to the small screen. Other Taylor Sheridan movies, stuff that impacted Yellowstone, and programs depicting families attempting to safeguard what they own are among the titles on the list. Take a trip to one of these shows or movies in your souped Dodge Ram.

1. Mayor of Kingstown

Mayor of Kingstown

This Paramount original, also starring Taylor Sheridan, lacks the western flair of Yellowstone. Still, it delivers the same gripping family drama and moral ambiguity that has Dutton fans returning for more. It stars Jeremy Renner and is set in a Michigan town controlled by the prison industrial complex.

2. Joe Pickett

 Joe Pickett

Yellowstone’s popularity has single-handedly propelled the neo-Western style to the center of television, and characters in cowboy hats are beginning to appear on our screens. Joe Pickett, a Spectrum original that has been offered other life (and a wider audience) now that Paramount has picked it up, isn’t a pallid imitator.

Michael Dorman stars as Joe Pickett, a game warden in Wyoming, where most people aren’t too appreciative of a guy with a badge telling them what they can and can’t hunt. The series is based on a rural detective book. When a person is found dead on his doorstep, Joe becomes embroiled in a murder investigation, which puts him face to face with a criminal family, a slew of sketchy individuals, and even an emu – Tim Surette.

3. Justified

Justified

Justified’s protagonist, US Marshal Raylan Givens, is inspired by a novella by Western great Elmore Leonard. His mix of law-breaking bad boy and attractive gentleman is likely to please fans of Yellowstone’s Rip. Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) is brought back to his birthplace in remote Kentucky to help clean up the narcotics, gun-running, and petty crime that have taken over the region, but he quickly becomes entangled in old ties conflicting allegiances, making the job much more difficult.

4. Outer Range

 Outer Range

This mind-bending sci-fi Western was almost certainly presented to Amazon as “Yellowstone meets Lost.” Royal Abbott, a Wyoming rancher who uncovers a vast, strange hole on his land that appears to have otherworldly power, starring Josh Brolin, a Taylor Sheridan veteran from Sicario, in creator Brian Watkins’ Prime Video brain teaser. People are attempting to take the ranch from Abbott and his family in a string that is blatantly obtained from Yellowstone — one of the ambitious buyers is Wayne Tillerson, a wealthy rancher played by Will Patton, who Yellowstone fans will recognize as Jamie Dutton’s biological dad Garrett Randall — but Royal denies to sell, at least not until he figures out what’s up with this hole.

5. Warrior

Warrior

Do you want to experience Yellowstone’s swaggering Americana attitude differently? How about this original that combines martial arts action with medieval drama? It follows Chinese immigrant Sahm as he looks for his long-lost sister in 1870s San Francisco and becomes a strong arm for an organized crime family, based on a story by Bruce Lee. Consider it the polar opposite of what we’re used to seeing in Western movies.

6. 1883

1883

The prequel to Yellowstone, 1883, narrates the event of John Dutton’s ancestors’ journey to Montana. James Dutton (Tim McGraw) and Pinkerton agent Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott), a rugged old cowboy with a golden heart, bring their family on a treacherous trek through the Great Plains. It’s a traditional Western with stunning cinematography. It’s a roadshow more akin to Lonesome Dove than Yellowstone. Still, fans of the main program will recognize Taylor Sheridan staples like beautifully masculine banter and a great sense of authenticity in its cowboy-life elements.

7. Ozark

Ozark

This Netflix classic will return in January for its fourth and final season, just in time to fill your Yellowstone-less days. Jason Bateman stars as a financial expert who is forced to relocate his family, including his wife, Laura Linney, to Missouri to help a drug gang launder money. While the Byrdes may not always be as in charge as the Duttons, their race to the top and the colorful array of personalities that surround them are as captivating.

8. Hell or High Water

 Hell or High Water

The movie where Taylor Sheridan became Taylor Sheridan is this 2016 crime thriller about two brothers (Chris Pine and Ben Foster) who go on a bank robbery rampage to obtain sufficient cash to back their family ranch from the same bank they’re targeting. Sheridan was nominated for an Academy Award for his sophisticated, lived-in script. The film also received accolades for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Jeff Bridges, who portrays the grizzled Texas Ranger on the brothers’ trail. Moreover, Sheridan’s singular voice as a writer, which rose to prominence with Yellowstone, was crystallized here, maybe more so than in Sicario, his darker, more cynical debut script.

Hell or High Water shares several similarities with Yellowstone, including a modern Western setting, a strong feeling of place (in this case, West Texas), a conservative populist leaning without any apparent political objective, and profanely lyrical Western speech. Sheridan’s pronouncement-heavy speech has become a touch self-parodic after four seasons of Yellowstone, but it still seems fresh and concentrated here. Gil Birmingham and Yellowstone’s Thomas Rainwater are among the cast members. It’s about people attempting to hold on to their homes and ways of life, like Yellowstone.

9. Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan began his career as an actor, including a notable spell on this dark family drama about an outlaw motorcycle gang, in contrast to becoming one of the greatest creators in the industry right now. While it lacks the western connotations of Yellowstone, the moral ambiguity and edge-of-your-seat excitement are ideal for those looking for something fresh to get excited about.

10. Wind River

Wind River

Taylor Sheridan made a reputation for himself as a film screenwriter, authoring such successes as Sicario, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and Hell or High Water, which garnered him a slew of awards, including an Academy Award nomination. Sheridan wrote and directed Wind River in 2017, a thriller about a US Fish and Wildlife tracker (Jeremy Renner) and an FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen). They linked up to solve a case of sexual assault. It features Sheridan’s characteristics, such as powerful action sequences, a solid connection to the country, and complex character relationships.
